Los Angeles is known for having heavy traffic and being home to a number of celebrities. There are lots of other features to this fascinating city as well. It’s the third-largest oil field in the United States, and there’s an oil derrick on the campus of Beverly Hills High School that produces about 400 barrels of oil every day. The fabulous and exclusive town of Beverly Hills started as a lima bean ranch but is now one of the richest places in the world. In fact, if Los Angeles were its own country, the economy would be larger than Saudi Arabia, Switzerland’s or Sweden.
The summers are warm and dry, and the average high is about 84 degrees near the end of the season. Winters are pretty mild, and temperatures go down to only about 68 degrees.
Arts and Culture
Los Angeles has lots of great museums to visit, such as the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (5905 Wilshire Blvd), which is the largest art museum in the western region of the U.S. The vast collection of art is inspiring, and the museum is close to the La Brea Tar Pits. The Japanese American National Museum (100 N. Central Ave) showcases the history and culture of Japanese Americans and their contributions. This museum is in Little Tokyo, near a variety of shops and restaurants. The Broad (221 S. Grand Ave) is a contemporary art museum in the downtown area. The museum was founded in 2015 by philanthropist Eli Broad and houses several breathtaking exhibits.
