"It finally happened - I had that moving experience you read about in angry reviews and never think is actually real. tl;dr - Extremely careless movers I used them to move from Los Angeles to Portland through online site Unpakt. So I can't comment on the scheduling and office portion. The lady I talked to on the phone seemed very friendly. But the move itself! Holy Moly. Packing seemed to go pretty well, they were friendly when loading the truck. But then we got to the destination... First thing out was the bed frame, and it looked like you'd dragged it along the asphalt for a block. Okay, not a great start, I take some photos and hope that's the only thing. One or two items come out okay, and then they bring in my floor lamp. It's bent in the middle, and the lamp portion is crushed, the metal is crushed, the plastic shade is crushed. The guy says "did you know the base of your lamp was cracked?" Spoiler alert - the base was not cracked, and still isn't. And if you had noticed damage, why didn't you document or point it out before the move to save yourself the grief? No, he was trying to convince me the lamp was already broken. We go back and forth a few times until I tell him not to treat me like I'm stupid, he makes an offhand comment I can't hear, and he doesn't talk to me for the rest of the day. Next he brings in my desk lamp... Crushed, bent broken, same story. Do they not know how to pack lamps? After that it became pretty clear that they had damaged both items, and they stopped conversing with me and hurried their pace. I tried to be friendly with "that goes here, that can go over there" but they always acted in passive-aggressive silence. It was incredibly uncomfortable. The remainder of the move happened very quickly, as they seemed to be throwing stuff carelessly into the house as quickly as possible. Once they were done, the foreman said "okay you're all good" and walked off. The one who argued about the lamp never said another word to me after our the lamp thing. I followed to point out the damages and ask who to talk to about filing a claim and was told "I know nothing about it" in a very passive aggressive and dismissive tone, before they started the truck and left. Cool. In all I had 4 items with significant damage. In addition to the bed and lamps, they broke a dresser. You know those little face panels between the drawers? They tried lifting it by one of those and it cracked. I heard it. But they adjusted their holds and pretended like nothing had happened. If I had't heard it I might not have noticed for quite some time. I will say that one of them was using the dolly to bring boxes inside and scraping the metal against my hardwood floor, until I bent over to inspect where he'd just been for scratches. When he saw me do that he started to offload the boxes by hand, which was a nice gesture, but why were you scraping a dolly against a hardwood floor to begin with?"
