You always hear about everything being bigger and better in Texas, but you can’t really appreciate it until you satisfy your taste buds at some of the steakhouses in Houston. From modern chophouses to old-fashioned, hole-in-the-wall meat joints, this is city that will keep you well fed. Chances are pretty good that your Houston movers will be able to give you a long list of their favorite venues, but here are the names of a few to get you started.
Although not necessarily the most upscale joint, Pappas Bros Steakhouse has learned their spot on the list for their inviting atmosphere, exceptional service, and of course, some pretty good eats. It’s often referred to as the Best Steakhouse in Houston by the locals, so be prepared to wait, even with a reservation. From the second you walk through the door, the smells will excite you, and rest-assured, the food is worth the wait!
Fair enough, usually chains are naturally exempt from lists like this, but there is no denying that there is something awfully special about the Houston location. Good luck finding any complaints about Capital Grille; they are absolutely flawless. The Wagyu Carpaccio is a must for a small plate and of course, it would be complemented perfectly by the Delmonico Porcini-rubbed Steak that is rubbed with a 12-year balsamic. Drooling yet?
For a little more moderate pricing, the Chama Gaúcha Brazilian Steakhouse is an excellent pick. It offers an intimate setting with posh décor and ambient lighting. The meat is tender, salads are large and sides are flavorful. Oh, and make sure you save room for dessert because you can’t leave without a piece of their Molten Chocolate Cake.
Literally, everything is amazing here, not just the steaks! Their unlimited warm cheese bread is impossible to resist, and their Lamb and Bacon-wrapped Tenderloin earns rare reviews. Be warned, the restaurant is a bit pricy, but definitely worth the expense for a special occasion; service is impeccable and ambiance is just right. Make sure you make reservations, or you will never get a table.
If you are dying for a steak, but you don’t necessarily want to squeeze into a cocktail dress or put on a tie, this is where you go. The walls are embellished with interesting artifacts that will give you something to look at while you wait for a table. For starters, you definitely want to try the Quail Bites, and for dessert, the Raspberry Cheesecake is highly recommended. For the main attraction, flip a coin between the Cowboy Steak and the Porterhouse; you won’t be disappointed with either.
Ask your Houston movers about the steakhouse, and they will likely say very good things about it. The dining area is very plush and open. You can’t go wrong with any of their steaks, and if you order rare, you actually get to choose if you want it presented cool or warm, which is a nice option. Finish your meal off with their White and Dark Chocolate Bread Pudding; it’s made with a wine reduction and pretty much tastes like Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal, but on a whole new level.
