So just how much does it cost to move locally? We got real prices from real movers and the results are in.
We contacted moving companies with an example Move Plan for an average one bedroom home with no stairs and 390 cubic feet of furniture and boxes. We got guaranteed prices for a local move in different destinations nationwide, as well as average prices for moving homes ranging in size from studio to 4 bedroom locally in NY. All prices are for standard moving with no additional services such as packing, crating, storage etc.
Cost of Moving Locally
The cost of moving a one bedroom apartment varied between $272 in New York City and $576 in San Francisco. Denver was also on the affordable side, with an average price of $280 while Boston was the 2nd most expensive city to move within at $555. More cities include:

An additional cost you might want to consider is insurance. The default insurance package included in the prices offers a coverage of 60 cents per lb. Depending on the value of your possessions, spending more on additional insurance can be a very good idea. Would you like to be reimbursed 60 cents per lb if your flat screen TV got broken? Insurance purchased independently can cost around $10 per $1,000 of valued goods with a deductible of $250-$500.
