12 Free Things to Do in Milwaukee

Your Milwaukee movers will likely tell you that an increasing number of people are moving to this great city for a few different reasons. Contrary to what many believe, this city has a lot more to offer than its great brewing activities that it is so well-known for. You will find some of Wisconsin’s most reasonably priced real estate here as well as a ton of employment opportunities, including a few Fortune 500 companies. Add on all the attractions, beautiful scenery and friendly folks, and it no surprise that people are making the move here. You don’t even have to spend a ton of money to have a good time; there is plenty of fun to be found for free.

  1. Milwaukee County Zoo – You may be surprised to learn that you can gain free admission to one of the city’s main attractions, but you can. The zoo has scheduled days every year that allow Milwaukee residents in for free. Here you will find more than 2,000 mammals, amphibians, reptiles, birds and fish spread out over 200 acres.
  2. Jazz in the Park – Head over to Cathedral Square Park on Thursday evenings from June through September and you will find performers from across the country take the stage.
  3. Milwaukee Public Museum – Residents of the city get in for free every Monday. You will enjoy three floors of exhibits offering a rainforest, butterfly garden, walk-through villages, dinosaurs, world culture and more.
  4. Milwaukee Riverwalk – You don’t need to have any intentions of shopping or dining to enjoy a stroll along this 3-mile pedestrian walkway that spans along the Milwaukee River.
  5.  Lake Michigan Waterfront – Whether you want to sit and bask in the sun, swim in the water, run on the beach or bike the 8.9-mile trails, you will enjoy every second you spend at the waterfront.
  6. Milwaukee Control Library – Even if you have never considered yourself a library person in the past, you will find yourself drawn to this one. The Neo-renaissance building is a must see, at least once, as it finds itself in the National Register of Historic Places.
  7. Bradford Beach – When it gets hot, locals tend to flock to this beach. You will find beach volleyball, outdoor yoga classes and plenty of other activities going on. The Bradford Beach House is right there too, offering drinks, food and live music on weekends.
  8. Seven Bridges Trail – This trail at Grant Park is known as a haunted hot spot in Milwaukee. The hike takes you through ravines and woods, and offers access to the beach.
  9. Gallery Night – Every quarter there is a gallery night where residents can enjoy art throughout the city.
  10. Ice Skating – Slice of Ice Skating Park is created every winter at Red Arrow Park. Whether you want to get away on your lunch hour, have a fun date or bring the whole family, you will always have a good time. If you bring your own skates, admission is free.
  11. Sledding – There are some fantastic tobogganing hills here. There are even some lighted ones for nighttime use found at Brown Deer Park, Whitnail Park, Currie Park and Pulaski Park.
